Reaching Our World: Summer
Summer: grilling, swimming and the fourth of July. Thoughts on our country’s holiday to celebrate its freedom led me to a renewed appreciation for our armed forces around the world. A good outreach for any women’s ministry would be reaching out to our men and women in the military.
What can you do? There are many good outreaches to our soldier in foreign countries but I’ll talk about two.
Operation Worship-This is a chance to give the gift of God’s Word to our troops. How? Simply visit a LifeWay Christian store near you and purchase an Operation Worship Bible for only $4.99. Write a personal note inside and then the Bible will be shipped to the troops or a family member. You have your choice of branch of service or someone on the home front. Make a difference through a gift of the Word of God.
Operation Shoebox-This outreach meets physical and emotional needs of a soldier through a simple care package. Everyone likes receiving mail! The website http://www.operationshoebox.com also has a wounded warrior program where they assist soldiers wounded in military hospitals through gifts of books, calling cards and other items. This website is stocked full of ideas and outreaches for any size women’s ministry.
This year let’s make summer more than a time of vacation. Let’s do something that can make an eternal difference to the men and women who put their lives on the line for us daily.
